Gopher Hill Festival

Prior to the 1890s, the town of Ridgeland was known as Gopher Hill, because of the abundance of gopher tortoises that inhabited the area sandhills. This annual festival, named for the now endangered gopher tortoise, offers an array of family fun and entertainment. Highlights include a parade, arts and crafts, kiddie rides, games, free outdoor concert with a variety of entertainers and the ever popular turtle race.
