Often considered Tennessee Williams’s greatest play, A Streetcar Named Desire premiered on Broadway in 1947 and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Set in New Orleans, this powerful play is the story of the conflict between two cultures represented by Blanche DuBois whose life has been diluted by her romantic illusions and her sister’s working-class husband, Stanley Kowalski. The exploding tension between the two cultures generates some of the most memorial characters in American drama.
