Leeds Folk Festival and John Henry Celebration

Aug
29–30

The Leeds Folk Festival and John Henry Celebration welcomes you to one of the “Top-10” events in Alabama for the month of September. If you enjoy history, you will love our play on the life of John Henry and our Civil War program presented by Bobby Horton. If you love art you will bask in the variety and quality of our juried artisans from Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Louisianan, Mississippi, Kentucky and North Carolina. If you love music, you need to bring a chair and plan to spend two days at our stage where folk, country and Celtic music will be played by groups such as the Flying Jenny, Ringing Strings, Act of Congress, After Class and others. If you have children, they are sure to love our children’s entertainer, Marc Seymour, who brings more than 100 drums and teaches percussion, as well as folk crafts children make and take home as a souvenir. For those who love folk food, enjoy our folk cafe brimming with barbecue, chicken, fried pickles, potato salad, fried oreos, lemonade and churned ice cream. The dates are September 19 from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. & 20th from 12:00 – 6:00 p.m. This event has free admission, free parking and is handicap accessible. The festival is 15 minutes from downtown Birmingham at 1840 Parkway Drive in Leeds. Call 699-1892 for more information.
