The Black Warrior & Tombigbee Lakes (BW&T) consist of six lakes - Demopolis, Coffeeville, Warrior, Oliver, Holt and Bankhead. The lakes vary in size from the largest, Demopolis Lake with a surface area of 10,000 acres, to the smallest, Oliver Lake with a surface area of 800 acres.

Oliver Lake was formed by the construction of the William Bacon Oliver Lock and Dam. The Lake is nine miles long with approximately 1,000 surface acres. Recreational development is limited to boat launching facilities and day use areas which are located within the Tuscaloosa city limits and managed by the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority.

Corps of Engineers managed recreation facilities on Oliver Lake are limited to a boat launching ramp on the north side of the lake in Northport, AL and a fishing pier on the south side in Tuscaloosa, AL. Both of these facilities are located immediately below Oliver Lock & Dam. All other recreation development is located within the Tuscaloosa city limits and managed by the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority. These areas include two (2) day use parks, a fishing pier and a boat launching ramp.
