Denver
The Denver region covers the metro core of Colorado at the eastern foot of the Rocky Mountains, where the Great Plains meet the Front Range. Denver itself sits at exactly 5,280 feet — the Mile High City — and the metro extends outward through six counties of plains-and-foothill suburbs and former mining towns. The mountain wall rises immediately west, putting alpine country within an hour’s drive of any downtown address. Denver, Jefferson, Adams, Arapahoe, Douglas, and Broomfield counties make up the region. Anchor cities include Denver, Aurora, Lakewood, Thornton, Centennial, Westminster, Arvada, Parker, Castle Rock, and Golden (the Coors brewery and the Colorado School of Mines). Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, Cherry Creek State Park, Chatfield State Park, and Roxborough State Park cover the major parks. Most visits build around two layers. Denver’s downtown and surrounding neighborhoods (LoDo, RiNo, Cherry Creek, Highlands) handle the urban itinerary — sports, food, museums, the Denver Art Museum, the History Colorado Center. The foothill day trips reach Red Rocks for concerts, Golden for brewery tours, and the high country at Idaho Springs and Georgetown via I-70.
