Southwest
Southwest Ohio covers the rolling country in the southwestern corner of the state, running from Cincinnati north through Dayton to the Indiana border. The terrain is gently rolling — Wisconsin glaciation till country in the north giving way to the Ohio River corridor and the unglaciated edge near Brown County. The Great Miami, Little Miami, and Whitewater rivers all converge near Cincinnati. Thirteen counties cover the region. Hamilton holds Cincinnati (the third-largest city in Ohio) and the Cincinnati Zoo; Montgomery holds Dayton (the home of the Wright brothers and the National Museum of the United States Air Force); Butler holds Hamilton and Oxford (with Miami University); Clark holds Springfield; Warren holds Lebanon and Kings Island amusement park; Greene holds Xenia and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base; Clermont holds Batavia. The Cincinnati Museum Center, the Underground Railroad Freedom Center, the National Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson, Carillon Park, and Kings Island anchor major attractions. Most trips here split between Cincinnati and Dayton. Cincinnati handles the urban itinerary — the Reds and Bengals, the Cincinnati Zoo, Findlay Market, Eden Park, Over-the-Rhine; Dayton runs the aviation history at Wright-Patterson and Carillon; Kings Island in Mason draws regional family-amusement traffic.
