Nebraska City, Nebraska

The focus will be on more than 400 scientific discoveries of flora (178 plants) and fauna, (122 animals) made at President Thomas Jeffersons direction on their historic Corps of Discovery Journey from 1803-1806.

A life size replica of the keelboat used by Lewis and Clark will be the vehicle to transport the visitor through a highly interactive rediscovery of the explores remarkable journey on the great Missouri River, Nebraska's dynamic eastern border.

Hands on exploration activities will afford the visitors the opportunity to relive some of Lewis and Clark's daily scientific activities such as plant specimen collecting, preparation map making and taking celestial readings.

The Great Hall of Animals will present mounts of the large animals observed by Lewis and Clark in dramatic settings.

Separate interactive areas will present small animals, birds, flowers, plants and trees in their native settings.

G.A.R. Hall

The Grand Army Republic offered membership to all military personal who served in the Union Army from 1861 to 1865. The purpose was to provide camaraderie for the veterans and support for the widows and orpans of the union soldiers. The G.A.R. Hall in Nebraska City was just one of close to 100

Wildwood Historic Home and Art Barn

When Jasper Ware, an early Nebraska City banker took his wife, Ellen Kinney, to the west edge of town, pointed out the heavily wooded area south of Arbor Lodge, and said he wanted to build her a country home on the site, she responded, "Oh Jasper, I couldn't live in these wild woods!"

Arbor Lodge State Historical Park & Arboretum

A 52-room mansion that belonged to J. Sterling Morton, Founder of Arbor Day. Many of the family's original pieces fill the home. The Carriage house displays carriages used by the family. Walking trails wind through the grounds.

Otoe County Courthouse

This two-story, Georgian brick structure is the oldest public building in the state of Nebraska still in use. The building was completed in 1865 when Otoe County was formed and Nebraska City named the county seat. Inside, several photos and displays portray the building's history.
