Home of Alabama and Coushatta Indians, part of Southern forest tribes, in dense, wooded area known as the Big Thicket. Sam Houston, a staunch friend of Indians, was influential in having reservation created in 1850s. The Big Thicket Bus Tour allows you into one of the most beautiful forests in the state. This 45-minute tour shows visitors different species of trees, plants and native wildlife. Learn the history and cultures of this colorful Indian tribe on a 25-minute Indian Country Bus Tour. There is also a Living Indian Village walking tour which has demonstrations of the early life of the tribes with crafts, food, and weapons. Colorful dances in the Tribal Dance Square features dancers in full regalia performing a 25-minute show of traditional dances. One of the most popular attractions is the Indian Chief Train Ride, a 20-minute excursion in the Big Thicket National Preserve. Gift Shop and Inn of the Twelve Clans Restaurant also available.
