Event Details
Each spring, food lovers across the nation anticipate the harvest of Georgia's Official State Vegetable, the famous Vidalia Onion. The Vidalia community celebrates the occasion with a four-day festival that's packed with fun-filled activities that offer something for everyone. The Vidalia Onion Festival has been featured on The Food Network and recognized as one of the Five Don't-Miss Festivals Across the U.S. by MSNBC. Join us for a sweet time in Vidalia!
The fun starts before the festival officially begins with a youth boys' baseball tournament, the Miss Vidalia Onion Pageant, and Battle of the Bands.
The festival weekend officially kicks off with a children's parade and opening ceremonies that include a Movie Under the Stars. Other festival activities include a street dance, arts & crafts show, "Tales From the Altamaha" folk-life play, sidewalk sales, and famous onion-eating contest.
The excitement builds at the Vidalia Regional Airport with a carnival, aviation activities, the Vidalia Onion Festival concert, and a fireworks show. There's also a Kiwanis Onion Run. And for those who wish to celebrate the sweet Vidalia onion in all of its culinary glory, don't miss the Golden Onion professional chef competition, the Culinary Extravaganza, and the Vidalia Onion Recipe Contest and Public Tasting, which showcases the talents of home cooks. This is only a taste! You’ll have to come to Vidalia to experience the "whole onion."
