Christmas in the Cabin

Get ready for the Holiday Season by visiting the Heritage Center, the air will be filled with Christmas Magic.

On Saturday from 4 pm to 8 pm the Heritage Center will be the refreshment stop for the Homes for the Holidays Tour. Visitors may come to the Heritage Center for cookies and punch. While they are here the visitors can tour the Volkman Cabin. Originally built in 1857 by Martin and Dorthea Volkman near Lyona, this cabin survived the years. The family members donated the cabin to the Dickinson County Historical Society in the 1980s. It is used to tell the story of the lives of the early pioneers of Dickinson County.

There will be re-enactors in the cabin cooking food on the wood burning stove and preparing for a pioneer Christmas. Step back in time to experience a true pioneer holiday.

On Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm the Heritage Center will also be the refreshment stop for the Homes for the Holidays Tour.

At 6 pm on Sunday the Heritage Center will present Christmas in the Cabin. There will be live music by Thad Beach. The children can visit Santa Claus. The whole family can tour the grounds including the Volkman Cabin and the Burklund Store where they can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate. The evening would not be complete without taking a ride on the C.W. Parker Carousel with the band organ playing Christmas music and a wagon ride pulled by horses.

So begin the Holiday Season in Abilene and make this year very special at the Dickinson County Heritage Center. Don’t forget to visit the other attractions within the Five Star Museum District.
