Event Details

Every year since 1950, the community has gathered together to tie the fresh, fragrant pine boughs to the beautiful 35 foot tree that stands majestically at the intersection of Main Street and Russell Avenue in WaKeeney. The man made tree is decorated with red and green lights and topped with four white stars and is the centerpiece of the display. A canopy of sky blue lights radiates from the ivory star that crowns the tree.

The four block area that surrounds the tree is draped with fresh greenery, over 6,000 lights and other Yule decorations. Many community volunteers gather to construct the tree and it is erected by volunteer city workers and utility company employees. This holiday display is billed as "the largest between Kansas City and Denver" along I-70. The street posts and cross garlands are also decorated with fresh greens along with hand crafted wreaths, bows, and bells.

This spectacular display can be seen between the Saturday following Thanksgiving and New Year's Day.
