Event Details
Celebrate the holidays as the Foster and Woods families did during the early 20th century on the estate farm. Design fresh greens into swags and decorate the buildings in the barnyard. Stop by the Farmhouse, where the Woods family lived, and absorb the sights, smells, and sounds of the season. See what’s baking on the wood stove in the kitchen, and enjoy colorful Christmas decorations throughout the farmhouse. Visit The Willows, the 1854 Gothic Revival home of the Foster family. During the first-floor tour, view the festive holiday decorations and discover how the Foster’s would have celebrated Christmas and New Year’s Day. Help with the farm chores, take a wagon ride, and meet all the farm animals.
Wishing to preserve her beloved home and give future generations the chance to experience the sights, smells, and sounds of rural life, Caroline Foster in 1979 bequeathed Fosterfields to the Morris County Park Commission, to be preserved as a "living historical farm," the first in New Jersey. Not a replica, Fosterfields is a working farm, using the tools, techniques, and materials of a turn-of-the-century farm. friendsoffosterfields.org/
