Poteau Balloonfest

The Poteau Balloon Fest is an annual event held in October of each year. Not only do hot air balloons fill the skies in the mornings and afternoons but the festival offers free family entertainment such as Derek Cook FMX, BMX Freestyle Team, America's Best Frisbee Dogs, Muts Gone Nuts, Magician Jonathan Meyer, Joe & J.R., a petting zoo, a Mud Bog Race, a Little Miss & Mr. Balloon Fest Pageant & pet contests.

Additional entertainment includes carnival rides, tethered balloon rides, monster truck rides, zip line rides, mechanical bull rides, and helicopter rides.

Please note that all balloon events are wind and weather permitting!!! Any and all balloon flights are most likely to occur between the hours of 7am - 10am and 4pm -7pm. However, they are not guaranteed during these times. The atmospheric pressure plays a huge factor in balloon activities! WE CANNOT GUARANTEE BALLOON ACTIVITES and we CANNOT give specific times on Balloon activities! If balloons are not able to fly, pilots will be available to answer questions about hot air balloons. They will be monitoring the weather and announcing flight times through out the day.

One Checotah National Historic Landmark which continues the service which began just after the turn of the century is the IOOF Home. In 1902, a farm of 160 acres and $5,000 was offered by W.E. Gentry and his wife, Sallie, and was accepted by the IOOF. The local lodge, chartered in 1895
