Harper CountyAs early settlers began arriving in 1877, they found a vast prairie covered with native grasses and inhabited by abundant wildlife. The county still boasts plentiful natural resources. A highlight of activities conducted each year include the antique and classic car show in May, the Harper County 4th of July Celebration at Anthony Lake, the Anthony Downs horse & dog races in mid-July, the Attica Rodeo in late July and the Harper County Fair held the second weekend of August along with numerous art & craft festivals. Visitors are welcome to explore the historic Washburn courthouse, diverse museums, Danville and Runnymede churches and re-discover local heritage within our diverse museums. Travelers are encouraged to journey through Freeport- the smallest incorporated city with a bank in the U.S.A. Harper County is also fortunate to offer a nostalgic drive-in theater experience, roller skating, bowling and golfing. Anthony Lake provides swimming, fishing, boating, skiing, a shooting and archery range. At work or play, the county hosts a friendly attitude and a cooperative spirit. The lake has been worked on and the water was so low that fishing and boating were basically out of the picture. Due to recent rains the lake does have water in it and is going to be stocked as soon as it \"settles\".

Harper County Court House

Anthony, the county seat of Harper County, is justly proud of her stately Court House, constructed in 1908. The building is on the National Registry of Historic Buildings. It is also one of George P. Washburn's 13 historic Kansas courthouses.

City Parks

Anthony has four public parks with picnic and playground equipment, a ball diamond complex that offers playing fields for all ages, six hard surfaced tennis courts and two outside basketball courts.

Historical Museum of Anthony

The museum is located in the old Santa Fe Railroad Depot. It was built in 1928 and served in that capacity until its closing in 1982. In the fall of 1984, the museum moved into it, thus affording better accessibility for the handicapped and elderly with its ground-level entrances.
