Bluewater Lake, NM

Bluewater Lake is situated on the north flank of the Zuni Mountains in the Las Tusas Basin. The 1,200 acre reservoir is located at 7,400 ft in a valley carved in shale and limestone. The latter of which contains snail and brachiopod fossils.

Facilities at the park include a visitor center, group picnic shelters, boat dock, showers, restrooms and playground. Campgrounds at the park offer 120 developed sites, 14 with electric hookups, and RV dump station.

The park is host to many of nature's feathered friends. Bird watching, whether by the expert or novice, is a must at the lake with at least 68 different species of birds calling the park home or a savory resting spot.

Bluewater Lake and Bluewater Creek are stocked with rainbow trout, native or cutthroat trout, and catfish, with trout weighing up to 9 pounds having been caught in the lake. Numerous good fishing areas are easily reached by car. The park also is a popular spot for ice fishing in the winter months.

Activities at the park include boating, waterskiing, sailing, viewing wildlife, camping, and picnicking. Bluewater Lake and Creek are great fishing areas, both are stocked with trout. The lake is also a popular ice fishing spot during winter. Short trails lead to several scenic overlooks, offering views of the lake and dam.
