Best Time to Fish Season: Late spring through early fall (May to September) is best.

Time of Day: Early morning (dawn) and late evening are peak feeding times.

Water Temperature: Kokanee prefer 53–57°F. They'll move deeper as the surface warms in summer.

Locations: Troll the deeper center of Elk Lake or just off drop-offs near the boat ramp or western shoreline.

Trolling Techniques Downriggers are ideal for precise depth control.

Use a dodger or flasher to attract fish, followed by a short leader (10–16") and your lure.

Best Gear and Setup Rods: Light-action rods with good sensitivity.

Reels: Line counter reels help track trolling depth.

Line: 8–12 lb fluorocarbon or monofilament.

Gulp! Maggots (optional) can boost success.

Tips for Success Speed: Troll slowly—1.0 to 1.5 mph.

Color: Match color to water clarity. Bright colors (pink, orange) in clear water; darker or UV-reflective colors in stained water.

Depth Adjustments: If not getting bites, adjust your depth by 5–10 feet up or down every 20–30 minutes.
