Lake Houstan, TX

Lake Houstan was impounded in 1954 and has approximately 11,854 acres of water with a maximum depth of 45 feet. There are various flooded terrestrial and native emergent plants along with exotic species water hyacinth, alligatorweed, and water lettuce.

The predominant fish species are White Bass, Largemouth Bass, Blue Catfish, White Crappie and Bluegill. A city ordinance prohibits bow fishing on Lake Houston. Very little cover and structural habitat exists in this reservoir except in the upper areas in the west and east forks of the San Jacinto River.

Commercial facilities in the upper reservoir offer camping, boat access, fishing and other services. One county park, Deussen Park, located near the dam, offers boat and bank fishing access. Bank access is also available under the FM 1960 bridge
