The Madonna of the Trail is one of twelve statues placed across the country in the 1930's to honor the Spirit of the Pioneer Woman.
The 10-feet-tall figure is made of pink Algonite stone and was erected by the Daughters of the American Revolution whose vision inspired sculptor August Leimbach from Kaltennordheim, Germany.
The statue is located on Main Street in Springerville, across the street from the Post Office.
