The immigrant story comes alive at Vesterheim, America's oldest and largest museum devoted to one immigrant group. The downtown historic complex includes the main building, built in 1877 as a luxury hotel; an 1800s farmhouse from Norway; early pioneer immigrant homes; a church and house from North Dakota; and a stone mill that houses early farm equipment. Displays feature costumes, homes, room settings, colorful folk arts and woodcarvings, church altars, and a 25-foot boat.
