Father Padilla Memorial Park features a monument to Juan Padilla, who was killed in 1542. The shaded park has picnic facilities, playground facilities, gazebo, tennis court, basketball, nine-hole disc golf course, and baseball diamonds. Admission to the park's WPA-built swimming pool is free.
A historical marker placed along highway 77 just south of town explains the history of Father Padilla who came to the area now being the southern portions of Kansas to bring Christianity to the natives. He accompanied Spanish exporer, Coronado, a year earlier when the troop made its first journey to the area in search of legendary gold.
