Lyon County State Lake

Lyon County State Lake is a 40 acre lake and 442 acre wildlife area owned and managed by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks. Native Tallgrass prairie comprises most of the property. Dam and spillway construction was done in the 1930's mostly by the Works Progress Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Hunting is allowed. Boating is allowed for fishing only. Numerous opportunities for fishing from the shore are provided. Primitive Camping and picnicking are permitted, but there is no drinkable water. There is a nature trail.


Address: 5 miles west of Reading; from Emporia, go north on Hwy 99 to Hwy 170, then east to the sign, approx. 20 minutes from Emporia.
