Manhattan, Kansas

Founded in 1863 as the nation's first land grant college, Kansas State University is a nationally recognized comprehensive university with more than 200 undergraduate programs, 60 master's degree programs, and 40 doctoral programs. More than 20,000 students and 1,200 faculty members attend classed on the 668 -acre campus in central Manhattan. A satellite campus in Salina is the home of the College of Technology.

K-state offers degrees in nine colleges: Liberal Arts and Sciences; Agriculture; Engineering; Business; Education; Human Ecology; architecture, Planning, and Design ; Veterinary Medicine; and Technology.

The University's library system contains more than four million volumes, journals, and government publications and is capable of retrieving information from more than 200 databases.

K-State ranks first nationally among state universities in the number of Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, and Goldwater scholarships awarded in the past ten years.

Pottawatomie Lake #2

State Fishing Lake No. 2.is located about four miles northeast of Manhattan. Pottawatomie Lake #2 is a scenic lake of about 75 acres that holds nice populations of crappie, largemouth bass and bluegill. The lake also produces impressive strings of channel catfish and holds some very nice walleyes.

Riley County Courthouse

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places the dominating limestone Courthouse was completed in 1906, built by Topeka contractor, J.B. Betts, and local contractor, Clarence Johnson. The citizens pledged $1,000 for the tower clock.

Carnegie Library

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Carnegie Library was built in 1904 with the help of a $10,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie. The building is located just to the west of the Courthouse and now houses the county attorney's office.
