Baldwin City, Kansas

The Douglas State Fishing Lake is located two miles northeast of Baldwin just off County Road 1055. The surface area of the lake is 200 acres with approximately 600 acres surrounding the lake.

FISHING - Douglas State Fishing Lake has a variety of fish habitat including brush piles, tire reefs, old bridges, and rock reefs. Fish species include bluegill, white and black crappie, largemouth bass, channel catfish, flathead catfish, carp, and white amur.

Two floating boat docks and fish cleaning stations as well as a handicapped accessible fishing dock are available. A privately owned marina provides bait, snakes, and boat rental to the public.

WILDLIFE - The predominantly woodland area around the lake is open to hunting. Fox squirrel, gray squirrel, white-tailed deer, and rabbit thrive here. Douglas State Fishing Lake also provides good waterfowl hunting. Snow geese and ducks use the lake during migration. The lake is also open to trapping. Muskrat, beaver, raccoon, opossum, skunk, and coyote are found here. Songbirds, ruffed grouse, and woodchucks may also be seen.

CAMPING - Camping is allowed on the area and free to the public. There are no electrical hook-ups or shower facilities. Three pit restrooms are available.

Black Jack Log Cabin

A white oak log cabin stands at the roadside park three miles east of Baldwin on Highway 56. Built in observance of Kansas' centennial in 1961, it now houses historical artifacts as well as hosting meetings and gatherings.

The Baldwin Golf Association owns and operates a 9-hole sand green golf couse and clubhouse southeast of the corner of Main and College (southeast of Allen Park).

While the club is a membership operated facility, it is available to non-members and guests as well.
