Girard, Kansas

On April 15, 1995, a formal ceremony dedicated a Huey Helicopter to its new home on the Southeast corner of the Crawford County Courthouse lawn.

In addition to the Huey, a granite replica of the Vietnam Wall is engraved with the names of the 777 Kansas lost in the Vietnam War. These memorials stand as a permanent memorial dedicated to veterans of all military service.

Drop by an see one of the nation's largest American Flags (30' x 60' - 130' high). While you can see the flag from your vehicle, you really must stand under the Big Flag to appreciate its true size, 130 feet high above the Kansas prairie honoring all war veterans.

Historic Court House Square

The current courthouse was built in 1922 and boasts beautiful Italian marble on the inside. Deer Statue, located at the southwest corner of the square, marks the spot Girard Founder, Dr. Charles H. Strong shot a deer and proclaimed that he would build a town on this very spot in 1868

Ice Barn and McFarland Lake

Ice was harvested from the McFarland Lake and stored in this lovely old stone barn built in 1896. It was built for James McFarland who was in the ice buisiness.
