You won't want to miss the charm and elegance of this beautiful old Victorian home built in the 1870s. Thayer was flourishing and John Wesley Forest decided that this southeast Kansas town was a good place to put down roots. He was from Vermont and had the house built in a New England Victorian style. Here, he and his wife, Abby, raised their family and held prominent positions in Thayer. Abby Forest was among the first women to become mayor of a city in Kansas and was instrumental in many civic endeavors.
The house, now owned by John & Lois Davis, has been renovated and the elegant spiral staircase leads to three beautifully appointed rooms for guests. These rooms are inviting and restful, each with a special decor of its own.
One room has a private bath which includes an English country garden wall mural, an old tub and separate shower. The other two rooms share the large hall bath. Two of the rooms have queen-size beds and the third room has twin beds.
The public rooms downstairs include a parlor with a rock fireplace, a dining room with a lace covered bay window and a Parlorpiano/reading room. The garden patio is also available for relaxing.
Breakfasts, served buffet style, consists of meat and egg dishes, fruits, rolls, muffins, juice, coffee or tea and tailored to your desires.
