Scandia, Kansas

The Scandia Museum houses many relics from the early settlers who were mostly Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian.

The Colony House was the first house built in New Scandinavia. It was built for the early settlers for shelter and protection from the Indians. A replica of the kitchen is on display at the Museum with some of the original equipment.

The museum features carvings from local artist, Allen D. Larsen, including a Borax 20 Mule Train, Wagon Train Attack, and Dodge City Main Street.

The museum houses many settings of long time businesses and professional people of Scandia, such as, Dr. E.P. Ahrens' dental office, the hair dresser's room, the chiropractor, and the realtor. The soda fountain in full regalia is from Haggman Wires Drug Store. An operating weaving loom for rug making is also on display.

The Scandia Museum has recently been involved in putting together a genealogy section with over 10,000 obituary, birthday and wedding dates.
