Glen Elder State Park On the shores of Waconda Lake, Glen Elder State Park offers nearly unlimited recreational opportunities. With its rural setting, Glen Elder is a perfect place to relax.

With four campgrounds totaling 140 electrical and water hook-up sites and over 300 primitive sites, there's plenty of room for both tents and RVs. Extra areas are opened during peak use times. Boat ramps in Kanza and Osage offer excellent lake access.

Modern restroom/shower buildings are open in Sioux, Kanza and Cheyenne from mid-April to October. Select facilities are open all year, including; some utility hookups in Kanza and Cheyenne Campgrounds, primitive campgrounds, frost-free hydrants, trails, vault toilets and the Hopewell Church. The Kanza shower and the visitor center may be open during the winter and early spring, depending on the weather. For RV'ers, the park has two dump stations. New concrete camp pads with secure tie downs, water and 50 amp electricity are available in Kanza and Cheyenne Campgrounds.

The Heritage Village facility provides historical displays and a basement reservable for group events. Future development includes a Waconda Springs replica, a limestone schoolhouse and native American lodge.

Day Use- Swimming, boating hiking, volleyball, softball, horseback riding and bike riding are available recreational opportunities at the park.

Camp hosts are available in the summer to assist you and answer questions.

Waconda Lake Wildlife/Bird Watching

You can see and photograph a diversity of wildlife species. In winter, bald eagles and golden eagles visit. Deer and pheasant are common sights. Waterfowl stop on their migrations, and a small Canada Goose flock make the area home.
