Kanopolis Camping Kansas' oldest and most centrally located recreation area includes more than 22,000 acres of rolling hills, bluffs and woods. Located throughout the 14 campgrounds are 143 utility sites and over 200 primitive sites. A total of 41 improved primitive, electric only, and water and electric sites are being built. In addition to these campsites, a group camp area, vault toilet, group shelter building and ADA accessible horse mounting ramp will be added.

Kansas Wildlife and Parks operates two areas, Langley Point or "South Shore" and Horsethief or "East Shore" areas. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates two parks as well, Venango and Riverside as well as maintaining access areas at Yankee Run and Boldt Bluff. Kansas Wildlife and Parks and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers jointly manage the reservoir and Wildlife area to optimize recreational opportunities.

Campgrounds contain level campsites, many with electrical hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings. Shower buildings, sanitary dump stations, playgrounds, and drinking water are located in most parks.

Entrance stations are located at most campgrounds and all campgrounds are patrolled routinely by Park Rangers and Ellsworth's County Sheriff's Deputies.

Venango Campground - (Corps of Engineers) Fees include $16.00 prime, $14.00 electric, and $10.00 non-electric from May-September. There is a $6 per night utility fee at sites with electrical hook-ups from October - April. The campground is located on the northwest end of the dam and the facilities include: 215 camping sites, 66 electric sites, boat ramp, dump station, primitive group camp area with shelter house, reservable picnic shelters, showerhouse, swimming beach, playgrounds, ATV area and nature trail.

Riverside Campground - (Corps of Engineers) Fees include $14.00 electric, and $10.00 non-electric from May-September. There is a $6 per night utility fee at sites with electrical hook-ups from October - April. The campground is located on the southeast end of the dam along the Smoky Hill river and the facilities include: 40 camping sites, 9 electric sites, dump station, showerhouse, playground, and river access.

Horsethief and Langley Point State Parks - (Kansas Wildlife and Parks) Kanopolis State Park's have facilities including: beach, picnic areas, trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain bikes, picnic shelters, shower buildings, and dump stations. There are 143 utility sites (some with full hookups) and over 200 primitive sites. The seasonal fees include: $6.50/$5.50 for one-day vehicle pass, $8.00/$7.00 for base fee overnight camping permit, and $5.50-$8.50 for the utility hookups depending on how many utilities (water, sewer, and electric).
