Wadsworth-Longfellow House at Maine Historical Society
category : Historical Societies
Restored to the 1850s, the Wadsworth-Longfellow House was the childhood home of 19th century poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Built in 1785-86 by the poet's grandfather, the house is one of the oldest brick structures on Portland's peninsula. Decorated with original furnishings and family memorabilia, guided tours offer a unique glimpse into the life of the poet's family, as well as into the cultural and social history of 19th-century Portland.
