Stockton Lake Area Equestrian Trails
category : Equestrian
Take to the trails to enjoy the beauty of nature and the company of others on horseback. The shoreline, the wilderness trails, the bluff, the lake and the old abandoned roads on Corp land are savored one hoof beat at a time.
The trails were planned and laid out when Stockton Lake was built. The Stockton Saddle Club and The Army Corps of Engineers planned the trails starting at the end of Orleans Trail South Campgrounds and running to the Hawker Point area. Campgrounds are located at both ends. Another trail is located at the upper end of the Lake at Hulston Mill area. (417) 637-5993.
The Stockton Lake Equestrian Trail meanders approximately 15 miles between Hawker Point and Orleans Trail Campgrounds. The Hawker Point Trailhead consists of 6 Non-electric sites in close proximity to shower facilities and restrooms. The Trailhead at Orleans Trail consists of 5 Non-electric sites and is also close to shower facilities and restrooms. Amenities include hitching rails, abundant shade, and ample parking for vehicles and trailers. The cost for these sites is $10 per night. These sites are non-reservable and are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Horses should be shod for the trails, the Saddle Club arena is suitable for barefoot horses. Current negative Coggins are required.
