On stage for over 50 years, this spectacular outdoor drama portrays the history of the Cherokee Indians covering the period of 1540 up to and through the removal of all but a remnant to Indian Territory in Oklahoma in 1838 and into present-day Cherokee, where descendants of those who held out against removal and those who returned from it now live on their own, sovereign land. In 2006, ?Unto These Hills? features a new script, new director, new score, new choreography, new set design, new costuming and new cast members ? all aimed at conveying a more culturally authentic, historically accurate and Cherokee-centered experience. Such sweeping change transforms this drama ? from history-book tales of what happened to the Cherokee, to vivid insights into what it means to be Cherokee. Nightly except Sundays.
