Based in Raleigh, the North Carolina Symphony is the orchestra with the longest continuous state support of any orchestra in the United States. This dynamic 68-member, professional orchestra presents approximately 175 concerts each year, traveling from the mountains to the coast, performing for more than 60,000 school children and 275,000 adults in large and small communities. The Symphony has one of the most extensive education programs of any U.S. orchestra, giving 45 concerts every year in schools throughout the state, free of charge, as a part of the state's music curriculum for school children. Other educational outreach programs include the annual Youth Concerto Competition, the Young People's Concert series in Raleigh, the Young Strings of the Triangle, Triangle Youth Philharmonic and a string intern program for collegiate musicians.
