The Knight Museum & Sandhills Center is located in Alliance's Central Park. This FREE history museum welcomes area visitors, who are treated to a film to start off their museum experience. The visitor then travels through a barn door to view The Sandhills via large wall murals, providing a vivid story of the Ogallala aquifer and geology, animals, nature and fossils of western Nebraska.
The next area is the Native American Life, which features an impressive collection of Lakota artifacts, quillwork and beaded items, which is considered to be one of the finest in the five state areas. Life in the County tells the story of the many settlers to western Nebraska via a sod house, setting under a full sized windmill. Railroad Life displays ranging from passenger trains to 200-car coal trains create a unique look at a bygone piece of Americana, including etched tracks on the floor. Life in Town shows a picturesque life in small town America at the turn of the century, while the Newberry Horse greets visitors adjacent to the Newberry store display.
A visit would not be complete without a visit to the Heritage Room which houses one of the most extensive genealogy collections in Nebraska. The Newberry Gift Shop stocks local-flavor gifts.
