York, Nebraska has been the county seat of York County since its organization in 1870. The first session of the Board of County Commissioners was held in the old pre-emption house. Soon, however, the County had offices situated in the public square, on the site occupied by the present building. Plans for the new structure began in July 1885. After some delays construction began and the new courthouse opened in 1888. - Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
