Branched Oak Lake Events

Branched Oak hosts numerous special events each year. The most notable are the bicycling, swimming, triathlon and sailing events of the ever popular Cornhusker State Games each July. An 800-acre dog trial area located near the northwest corner of the lake is the site of several sanctioned trials each year, usually in spring and fall. Several clubs and organizations conduct boating regattas, racing events and fishing tournaments. Special Occasion Activity Permit applications may be obtained at the park office or from the Commission's headquarters, 2200 North 33rd Street, Lincoln, NE 68503. Applications should be submitted a minimum of 30 days in advance of the proposed activity.

Attractions and Upcoming Events

Branched Oak Camping

Camping is permitted in nine public use areas around the lake. Facilities and opportunities range from modern to primitive. All campers must register, and overnight camping fees are charged in addition to the required Park Entry Permit. Self-registration stations are located in each campground.

Branched Oak Boating

As the largest body of recreational water within 100 miles of Lincoln and Omaha, Branched Oak is popular with powerboaters and sailboaters, alike. Boat ramps are available in Areas #2, #4, #5, #8 and #11.

Hikers, bicyclists and equestrians can have their choice of several trails around Branched Oak. On Liebers Point near Area #6, nature lovers can walk the half-mile long, foot traffic-only, Wildflower Nature Trail. Across the road from Area #4

Fishing is a popular activity, and Branched Oak supports a varied fish population, including bluegill, channel and flathead catfish, black and white crappie, largemouth bass, white perch, walleye and wipers. Two modern fish cleaning stations are provided, one each in Areas #5 and #11
