The Furniture Heartland, America?s largest concentration of solid wood manufacturers and retailers, is located between in Amish Country in Northeast-Central Ohio. Most of the stores are located in Holmes County, with several in Tuscarawas and Wayne Counties, and none of the stores are a 30-minute drive from the next. The Furniture Heartland includes more than 30 stores and about 450 manufacturers, many which are small, wood-crafting, family businesses. Furniture making is a tradition among Amish families that has been passed through generations. With a large Amish population in this area of Ohio, this region was an ideal location for a furniture community. Today, the community includes both Amish and non-Amish individuals producing a wide range of furniture styles?such as Mission, Colonial American and Queen Anne?a variety of wood species, including cherry, maple and oak. Visitors to the Furniture Heartland should be aware that stores are closed on Sunday and, as always, to be courteous to buggies when driving in Amish Country.
