Zoar Village - Ohio Historical Society

category : Historical Societies
Zoar Village was founded in 1817 by German religious dissenters who formed a communal society which lasted until 1898. Today, many of the sturdy structures built by the Zoar Separatists still remain, ten as restored museums of the Ohio Historical Society (Number One House, Kitchen/Magazine, Bimeler Museum, Garden House with block-square Garden, Bakery, Tinshop, Dairy, Wagon Shop, Blacksmith Shop and Zoar Store). Other privately-owned Zoar buildings are operated as restaurants, shops and bed-and breakfast inns. Many of the businesses are open year-round, but the museums are open April-Oct. Site is open weekends April-May and Sept.-Oct., and Wed.-Sun. Memorial Day through Labor Day.
