Portage Lakes State Park is located in Summit Co. between Akron & Canton. These lakes, totaling 1,220 acres, are named for the Indian portage which connected the Cuyahoga & Tuscarawas Rivers. Some of the lakes are natural, while others were reservoirs for the Ohio Erie Canal system.
Hike 5 mi. of trails along Turkeyfoot Lake. Six picnic areas offer tables & grills. Two shelters are reservable.
Turkeyfoot Lake offers a sand beach. Rex Lake has a boat swim area. Public ramps are on Long Lake; North Reservoir, w/access to Hower Lake; Nimisila Reservoir; & Turkeyfoot Lake, w/access to Rex Lake, Mud Lake, West Reservoir, East Reservoir, Cottage Grove Lake & Miller Lake. All boating is allowed, from speed boating w/400 hp limit on East Reservoir & Turkeyfoot Lake, to non-motorized & boating w/electric motors only on Nimisila Reservoir.
Enjoy fishing from shore, the lakes, or wheelchair accessible area at North Reservoir. Anglers catch bass, walleye, muskie, pickerel & catfish. A valid Ohio fishing license is required.
Pick 1 of 74 non-electric campsites. Amenities are basic. Pets permitted on designated sites.
