Lawrence Woods is one of Ohio's newest preserves. The site containing 1,059 acres was purchased in 1997 and is named in memory of the Honorable William Lawrence, a noted statesman, author, agriculturalist and banker. This significant woods is the largest known mature forest in this region and is home to a number of rare plant and animal species. The forest has large trees of may species including white, yellow, red and bur oaks, as well as beech, white ash, shagbark hickory, red maple, sugar maple and sycamore. The Woods is excellent for viewing birds and spring wildflowers. You can hike through the woods year around on the boardwalk.
