Muskingum River State Park offers facilities on the Muskingum River & along the river in Muskingum, Morgan & Washington Co.
The Muskingum River Parkway features the only hand-operated locks remaining in the U.S. The ten historic locks are hand-operated, the same as when built in 1841. The parkway provides 86 mi. of river from Ellis Lock #11, south of Dresden in Muskingum Co., to Devola Lock #2, just north of Marietta.
The locks allow river navigation for all boats, from rowboats to barges with no hp limit. Lock locations are Ellis (#11), Zanesville (#10), Philo (#9), Rokeby (#8), McConnelsville (#7), Stockport (#6), Luke Chute (#5), Beverly (#4), Lowell (#3) & Devola (#2). The locks are operated seasonally for a fee, with seasonal passes available. Contact park at (740) 674-4794 for information. Public ramps are available at Locks 4, 5, 6, 7 & 11. Private ramps are located near Locks 2, 7 & 10.
Picnic areas are available at all locks except #9 at Philo. A shelterhouse at McConnelsville is available.
20 campsites available off St. Rt. 60 & Co. Rd. 49 in Muskingum Co. with minial facilities. Pets permitted.
