Once the home of J.G. Puterbaugh, one of the founding fathers of the coal business in McAlester, this home and its grounds may be viewed by appointment only.
It is a tribute to early-day McAlester and includes antiques, collectibles, a complete collection of University of Oklahoma literary journals, and other rare records.
The Garrard Ardenium, adjacent to the home, is owned and operated by Mr. Puterbaugh's niece, Allece. The term "ardeneum" combines the qualities of "arboretum," "garden" and "museum." Visitors will enjoy the tranquillity of beautifully landscaped gardens and a step into the past with antique furnishings, maps, photographs, and historical items.
