Pawnee County Veteran's Memorial/ Walk of Honor Located on the west lawn of the Courthouse Square, a 6'6" bronze American soldier standing on a stone base 10' x 10' is dedicated to the men killed in World War I in 1922. In 1992 memorials to Pawnee County citizens who served in World War II, Korea, and Southeast Asia wars were placed in a plaza in front of the WWI monument. 12,049 bricks with veterans names were placed in a Walk of Honor. Veterans Day ceremonies honor our vets yearly.

Walking around the beautiful landscaped lawn of the stately Pawnee County Courthouse built in Old Jail1929, you will find tucked away in the northeast corner of the square, the Pawnee Library occupying an 1899 building that originally housed the county jail. Originally the structure had two stories in which the jail quarters were contained in the upper story, while the jailer and his family resided in the lower level.
