Information about opportunities within the forest is available. Try a kayaking adventure, or a birding outing. The national forest is the site of the battle between forces of British Col. Banastre Tarleton and Revolutionary Gen. Francis Marion, "The Swamp Fox." Now this wildlife-rich 260,000-acre forest welcomes campers, hikers and picnickers. Day-use facilities $5. Buck Hall Campground is $5 parking; $15 campsite. Admission is free.
