Florence sprang to life in 1857 around the convergence of three railroads. It`s become a hub of industrial development because of two major interstates, I-95 and I-20. The town has its own hockey team and hosts a Nike golf event each year. It`s also the home of Francis Marion University. Honda and Hoffman-Larouche operate factories in the area.
