Established in 1996 to collect, preserve and display the unique documents and artifacts that chronicle area history. Housed within the old Manning Library, built c. 1908 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the center and its contents provide insight into the life, culture and families of the area. Presentations that detail information on the county's beginnings in 1855 and life through the war years are provided for scheduled group tours. A genealogy section offers research into family history. Among the books and records relating to the Civil War for research are The Official Records of the War of Rebellion. Many Revolutionary War and Francis Marion books are housed in the Archives as well.
