Wright Patman Lake Fishing

category : Fishing
Wright Patman Lake Fishing Wright Patman Lake offers 25,000 acres of excellent fishing opportunities. If the angler is after the huge lunker Large Mouth Bass or the pan size sunfish perch, we have it all!

The lake was constructed in the early fifties and much of the timber was standing when the area was flooded. This is one of the largest reasons Wright Patman Lake is such a great fishing lake. The structure (Dead Flooded Timber) provides excellent habitat for all fish species. Currently many fishing events are held on Wright Patman Lake, local bass tournaments, catfish tournaments and gar shooting tournaments as well. The lake is best known for the crappie and catfish. The lake offers several species of catfish, Channel, Blue and Flathead. Texas Parks and Wildlife has introduced the Florida Hybrid Large Mouth Bass and the hybrid stripers into Wright Patman Lake many years ago, setting the stage for tremendous fishing opportunities and great fun.

White bass and hybrid striped bass are two very popular sportfishes at Wright Patman. There is an abundance of both species with high numbers of quality-size fish available for harvest. White bass are native to the Sulphur River system; hybrid stripers have been stocked to enhance fishing opportunities. Crappie are also popular at Wright Patman, with large numbers of legal-size fish available. Both white and black crappie are present; white crappie dominates. Channel and blue catfish are both present, with high densities of quality size fish. Flathead catfish offer an additional angling experience. Largemouth bass are moderately abundant with good numbers of legal-size fish. Bluegill and redear sunfish also offer good fishing opportunities.
