Navarro Mills Lake Fishing

category : Fishing
Navarro Mills Lake Fishing Fishing at Navarro Mills Lake is a very popular recreational activity. The lake holds the current state record for crappie, and fishermen come from all over to sample some of the best crappie fishing anywhere. Fishing for channel cat and yellow cat is very popular also. Hefty hybrid stripers are often caught below the dam when water is being released. A brand-new concrete fishing pier contributes to the fishing enjoyment.

The lake has a marina with a fishing pier and a small fee is charged. There is a fishing pier in Liberty Hill, Oak and Wolf Creek Parks, and no fee is charged for their use. No special rules or regulations pertaining to size restrictions or bag limits are in effect at Navarro Mills Lake. Fishermen need only to make certain that all fishing activities are in compliance with applicable state laws and avoid any posted restricted areas.

Although Navarro Mills Lake provides excellent opportunity for white crappie and catfish, turbid water makes angling for argemouth bass and sunfishes difficult. White bass angling is very good at times.

Inundated timber is abundant in the upper end of the lake. However, this shallow water area can be difficult to access during low water periods. Siltation from the watershed has exacerbated this condition. Some vegetation is present in the creeks entering the north side of the lake. Emergent native plant species such as water willow, and smartweed provide a marginal fringe during high water periods. Marine naiad provides some submersed cover near Wolf Creek Park.

Bass anglers should look for patches of pondweed along the north shoreline. Fish these with buzz baits or jig and eel combinations in the spring during the spawn. Catfish and crappie anglers will find live bait works best in the inundated timber in the upper end.
