26th Annual OUTHOUSE TOUR & CONTEST
November 19 & 20 ~ 9 am to 5 pm
Step back in time and into Elk Falls, Kansas, often described as a LIVING ghost town. What's a living ghost town, you ask? Much of what once made up Elk Falls is now gone and to the casual observer, the town looks dead - virtually a ghost town. BUT... we ain't dead yet! Set amid oak covered hills along the Elk River with a scenic waterfall, it's pastoral charm and peace have proved irresistible to a variety of vistors to this unusual little community.

ENJOY YOUR DAY IN ELK FALLS ~ YOU’RE ALWAYS WELCOME!
The first stop of the tour is in the one block long downtown at the Outhouse Tour Hdqrs. A nice young woman from Howard, Kansas sold me an Outhouse Button, ballot and map for $1. The few blocks of the small community had several yard sales, 11 competing outhouses, a quilt show, arts & crafts, horse drawn wagon rides and live music at Elk Falls Pottery.
After touring all of the outhouses, I voted for "King Toot" and "Star Buttz" by placing my ballot in the "Voter's Booth" outhouse.
Always held the Friday and Saturday before Thanksgiving.

This beautiful natural falls on the Elk River is impressive - at least by Kansas standards - and makes a really nice roar. Impressive, too, is the deep boulder-strewn river canyon in which it is located. Dry year? Welcome to "Elk Trickle."

Oldest in the area, these charming clapboard structures were built in 1879 (now Calvary Chapel), and in 1880 (United Methodist). The latter has had a continuously active congregation since its formation in 1870. A visit to its tranquil interior will take you back to a quieter, more peaceful era.
