Minneapolis, Kansas, celebrates the birthday of George Washington Carver with recipes and tastes made from peanuts, pecans, and sweet potatoes!
8 AM – 9:30 PM - recipes and food samples may be brought to the Chamber of Commerce office at 200 West 2nd Street, Minneapolis, KS
9:30 AM – NOON - sampling and voting open to the public.
BAKING WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE OTTAWA COUNTY FAIR.
Recipes may be submitted to mplschamber@sbcglobal.net or to the Chamber of Commerce office until July 12. Recipes will be printed in a booklet and made available at the Ottawa County Fair in Minneapolis.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
George Washington Carver graduated from Minneapolis High School in the early 1880s. This famous scientist who lived here and invented over 300 uses for the peanut, sweet potato, soy beans, and pecans, is best remembered for the one thing he did not invent: peanut butter! (Actually created hundreds of years ago by Native South Americans)
