The Mohican River, including the lower stem of the Clear Fork, was designated as a State Scenic River in 2006 because of its exceptional water quality, which it maintains in part due to the tree coverage alongside the river. Trees filter water, provide flood control, keep the water cool, and provide habitat for animals that use the river. The Mohican River is also a popular destination for anglers, paddlers and hikers.
